The Companion in the Shadows

We often focus on the disciples' blindness, but I want you to focus on Jesus’ presence. He didn’t wait for them to get their theology right before He joined them. He didn’t wait for them to stop being discouraged. He stepped into their shadows while they were still looking down at the dirt.

Some of you are in a "shadow season" right now. You are walking through the shadow of a grief that won't lift, the shadow of a debt you can't pay, or the shadow of a silent heaven. You feel alone because you cannot see a way out. But the lesson of Emmaus is this: The absence of a "feeling" does not mean the absence of a "Friend."
